From the pillow to the bed base, every element contributes to the quality of your rest.
A pillow is a true companion, supporting our head more or less effectively for a third of our lives. For a good night's sleep and high-quality rest, the pillow is at least as important as the mattress and bed base.
There are two main characteristics: height and firmness. No single ideal pillow suits everyone. A pillow should be chosen according to certain factors, especially the position you sleep in most often. Sleeping on your side, stomach or back calls for a different pillow in each case.
Sleeping on the wrong pillow for a long time can cause pain in the neck, back and upper limbs, as well as general discomfort on waking. In bed, the spine should be in as natural a position as possible: the cervical spine is the first area affected when a pillow does not meet your needs.
There are pillows for every sleeping position. When sleeping on your back, using no pillow or one that is too low forces the neck to follow the line of the spine with considerable strain. Since the neck does not continue in a straight line from the spine, a sufficiently high pillow is needed under the head.
A pillow that is too high also puts the neck in an unnatural position and stiffens the shoulder and neck muscles, so a medium height is ideal. The same applies to side sleepers, as a pillow that is too high or too low can cause a stiff neck.
Height is closely linked to firmness. With a pillow that is too soft, you risk sinking in; if it is too firm, the opposite problem arises. In both cases, the neck muscles have to compensate for an unnatural position, causing pain on waking.
Body shape also matters: as well as sleeping position and pillow characteristics, shoulder width and neck length should be considered, as they differ from person to person.

Memory foam pillows available in various shapes and heights.
Memory foam is a viscoelastic foam sensitive to body heat: it gradually adapts to your contours and returns to its original shape when pressure is removed. Its structure follows the outline of the head and neck and distributes weight across the sleeping surface, providing welcoming support. When choosing a pillow, consider its height, firmness and your sleeping position: the pillow should help keep your head and neck aligned with your spine.

Elasticity, ventilation and support with latex foam.
Natural latex is obtained from the sap of the rubber tree, Hevea brasiliensis. Processing, foaming and vulcanisation produce the pillow structures. The material is elastic and resilient: it adapts to the contours of the head and neck and quickly regains its original shape when pressure is removed. The pillow’s structure offers evenly distributed support and follows movement during rest.

The support beneath a mattress is extremely important. It is an essential component for the bed system to deliver all the required benefits in terms of comfort and hygiene. A poor choice can undo the effort, including the financial investment, made to find the most suitable mattress. Just as with mattresses, no one type of support can be said to be universally better than another.
Most experts currently favour wooden slats, and today’s most advanced bed base uses wooden slats with elastic joints, also known as shock absorbers. It can be adapted to each person’s physical characteristics by moving the central rubber sliders according to their weight.
Bed bases can be made with fixed or flexible slats. The former are intended for orthopaedic mattresses or those requiring rigid support and nearly flat slats; they are not suitable for all bed systems. The latter have slightly curved slats whose elasticity comes from both their curvature and the exceptional freedom of movement of the elastic joint.
To be of good quality and perform its role effectively, a bed base must have a sturdy frame balanced by slats with excellent elasticity and a perfectly smooth surface; its dimensions must never be smaller than those of the mattress.
The most advanced bed bases have an elastic joint with a dual function: supporting the individual slats and allowing each slat full movement and flexibility. The wooden slats in Cardone bed bases consist of at least 5 layers of steamed and dried beech, laid over one another, glued and pressed at 130°.
Cardone wooden slatted bed bases provide maximum flexibility along the entire length of the sleeping surface, maintaining their original elasticity over time.
A suitable bed base must allow air to circulate between the base and mattress and be built to meet several requirements:
The most advanced bed bases can be equipped with manual or electric mechanisms to customise the sleeping surface. The catalogue describes raising the torso and head section by a few degrees for people who experience regurgitation, or raising the foot section to encourage circulation.
Together, all these elements underpin Cardone’s research and development for quality rest.
A multi-slat bed base with narrow slats, consisting of many small slats close together, is more suitable for a latex or memory foam mattress.
For pocket-sprung mattresses, choose a base that is as even as possible, made with wide slats spaced no more than approximately 7 cm apart.
The Wood Line bed base range is made entirely from premium beech, a non-toxic, durable material, and offers a more natural response to new sleep needs. Its 38 mm cushioned tilting slat system provides ideal support for any type of mattress. This system allows our bodies to settle perfectly for optimal sleep, with a fully anatomical bed system.
The slats also help increase the comfort and elasticity of the entire structure, thanks to the weight adjustment system and shaping in the shoulder area.
The Cardone bed base range is the perfect solution for those looking for a solid structure to rely on for their rest, while also wanting a welcoming, cushioned base to sleep on.
For those seeking the very best in rest, bed bases are available with manual head and foot adjustment or fully motorised operation.
This model combines optimal, quality support with exceptional comfort, allowing the structure to be tilted into many different positions effortlessly.
The electric system, with a German OKIN motor, operates smoothly and continuously, avoiding uncomfortable jolts. With the frame divided into 5 zones, it is intuitive and easy to adjust using the supplied remote control.
